Today is Red Dress Day, a reminder of the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and 2SLGBTQIA+ people, and the justice that we all need to work towards. Use this day as a reminder to educate yourself, read Indigenous books, and support Indigenous artists and businesses today and everyday.
You can support Indigenous songwriter Francis Baptiste at his album release on 5/16 at Green Auto (one of my fav venues) with support from Numb?Dame?, Dust Cwaine, and Cara Bateman. You can also learn about Indigenous culture at Th’owxiya: The Hungry Feast Dish on 5/9 at the Anvil Theatre where Kwantlen legends come to life and teach us “when you take something from the earth, you must give something back.”
Could you win tickets? Yes… but it would be pretty cool if you put money directly into these artists pockets by buying a ticket. Okay, I’ll (temporarily) get off of my soap box.
