I’ve seen Five Alarm Funk enough times to know two things: my feet will hurt the next day, and someone onstage will make a shark onesie look like a reasonable purchase (it is). Their horn-fuelled riffs and sheer joy is infectious.

Truth and reconciliation asks more of us than one day, but Wednesday is a chance to pause and pay attention. Honour residential school survivors, learn from Indigenous voices and show up for local events. Supporting Indigenous businesses and artists is a great place to start.
